Title: So My TL's came today....
Post by: Tony B on June 25, 2004, 06:49:39 PM
and I'm really stoked to try em out. Realistically, the first time I do it will be a free outdoor show....wondering if I should just run them ORTF, or go for the split omni route. I've never taped with LD, and I don't wanna feck it up.....

thoughts? If I do run split, do I just position the mics in an "AB"?

At any rate, thanks to Justin O for hooking me up.  :)

try DIN(20cm @90*) so the mics are picking up more on-axis

I would only use the hypers if you are far away from the source, or in a shitty sounding room, or possibly if you are getting pounded with bass.

I have yet to try the hypers on the TL's since I usually use my mk41's if I need hypers.

If you run split omni's, running them AB is all you need, and it sounds very nice. I also did omni's about 8 inches apart, that also came out very nice.

I find the cards on the TL's to be very bassey, might start running hp1 on my V3 in the future when running cards, had to runnin omni's.

tony, sonic youth will be a god time to try 'em hyper, although from 25' cards will sound great too. nice call, keeping the neumanns? definitely run omni outside, run the stand WAY up though.

Very cool all. This first time out I'm going to try the split omni (for the outdoor show). It's the Violent Femmes at Taste of Minnesota--for my wife. I saw them once open for the dead, and they freaked me out enough to not have to hear em again--but she likes em.

DIN hyper for SY sounds good too. Yeah, I'm keeping the 184's for now, only because I love the sound, and really was sold on the TL's after hearing a couple shows run omni, and I like having the option to run Hyper as well. Plus, I never stealth, so size wasn't an issue. Thanks again for the suggestions guys!

Marc--got the DAT. You rule.

Hope SY isn't sold out (!)
