Is this the one that most people use? Do they only make one model?

If I pick this up, is my only option for using it with a Sony laptop to buy the $50 adapter from Valence? Thanks.

They make a few different models with different capacities. I have that model with the apple adapter and I get around 4-5 hours running with my Firewire410 drawing bus power (with phantom on). Get around 9-10 hours powering just the laptop.
And yes, you would need the Valance adapter.

I'd just be going into a vxpocket, so plenty of power for a 4 hour night. Seems like $135 is a killer price for this, even having to buy the adapter with it is still under $200.

I'd say with that setup you'd get at least 7-8 hours, depending on how power hungry your laptop is.

Went down to Best Buy at lunch and picked the new Valence up:
http://www.valence.com/ncharge2.asp
It lists at $199 but they still had a tag on the rack for a $50 rebate that expired on 7/3. I told the guy in Computers I'd take one if they could get me the $50 off and he said sure. So I got it for $149.
I'll try it out this weekend to see if it'll go 5 hrs as advertised. It's only 1.5 lb and pretty compact. Also, the battery comes with a cable that supports universal adapter tips. The tips were $10 but I already had one for the Sony I'm using. If I ever switch to another laptop, at least I won't have to get a new adapter, just an adapter tip.
