This Sumdex bag appears to be exactly the type of thing I've been looking for for months to hold laptop + FW410 (or UA-5, etc.) while transporting AND taping. Available from at least two sellers. I'll let you all know how it works out and hopefully post a pic after I get it.

looks allright, i run a picturebook and a 410, but i think i would need alot more room than that for cables and stuff...
-
I've got a separate flight case for my mics & mounts, in which I could cut space for cables if needed.
I'm expecting 410 + batteryspace universal will fit on top part, laptop fits on bottom with room to spare, and space left over to stash extra batt, FW cable, and some other items. Hopefully mic cables will fit too, but I'll still be satisfied if not.

Rakgear + target rack = a much better solution for me. Can't run the iBook closed...

it looks like my ncharge, usbpre, and vaio would fit nicely in there. but it does seem my mics and cables would be a squeeze. let us know how it turns out. oh and if anybody wants to buy me some target racks. i would gladly pay you back and then some. ;) i cant find em anywhere in ms.
