Title: Smokin' 9.6 RC 1000mah battery
Post by: rowjimmytour on July 14, 2004, 11:25:08 PM
The other night I hooked my multimeter to my 9.6 1000mah battery from ratshack and it started smokin'. I took it off right away and it felt warm after but you can not see any damage. I hooked it up to my ratshack charger and the light went green all looked fine but my UA5 has not arrived yet so I can not try it out. Anyway, I am not sure if it is safe though I do have a fuse hooked up that is 1/2 amp 250volt fast actin' on the postive side. What do ya all think? Go for it or not?

Were you by any chance trying to measure current instead of voltage?

Current is measured with the meter 'in-line', or as part of the circuit so that current flows through the meter.  If you hook it up to both ends of a battery it shorts the battery, but will measure the current flowing as your battery self destructs  :o

you probably didn't, but check your fuse inside your voltmeter and your RC pack.  also, double check your voltmeter settings and make sure you're measuring voltage and not current.  (in many voltmeters, there's a separate + plug for measuring current, which is always fused).

Check out this link for the ultimate UA5 battery.  This thing rules.  Best battery out there for the UA5.  I highly reccomend this battery, especially if you like to tape the opening band or do festivals.  Will run your UA5 for 8-10 hours, charges in less than 5 hours, is lighweight and has a power meter.
Also affordable at 50-55$.
