Title: UA-5 (4 mic ?)
Post by: momule on July 15, 2004, 07:44:20 PM
Can I do this.
I thought I could run My mic's In XLR, and then My buddies Bands Mic's (matched Mk012) via Xlr>Mini>RCA

is this possible with the JB3?
will it produce anything worth a darn or am I dreaming?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Nick

Check the Archival Info forum's UA5 FAQ.

umm, I'm not sure if the UA-5 will mix down 4 ins to a single 2-track digital signal.  If it does, then it could work but you'd have to mix on the fly

it would work, but i wouldn't recomend it.  It would be easier to run all 4 mics into a mixer, then pan them right, and run the two mixes of mics into the ua-5.  Other than that, i don't think i'd mess with it.  One thing i'd like to try sometime, would be a 4 mic mix, having the 4 mics spread out onstage, mix accordingly.  Would be cool, but havn't had the time nor strenth to try it.  Good luck man.

I did it once - ran ADK A51Tl's on stage into the xlr mic inputs and DPA 4061's> battery box into the line level rca inputs.  Yes, you have to mix "on location" and without level meters or pan controls its kind of tough.  Never bothered with it again, but it was a fun experiment.

Fairly often I run this setup:

         Oktava MC012 > UA5 (XLR inputs) \
                                                           > JB3
Core Sound Binaurals > UA5 (RCA inputs) /

I can't remember where I ran the level in front and back. I want to say 1 o'clock on the front and 9 o'clock on the back. Don't quote me on that though. Supose it could be different for differnt mics etc.

I *think* I can tell the difference with the CSB's, but I never tested it by turning down the RCA inputs. Maybe I should sometime.
