Hey all,
I was interested in setting up a comparison test using my M200s at DMB this tuesday. The comp would be
M200s > w-mod UA-5
and
M200s > m148 > modSBM-1
My first question- is this even possible? I know there are issues with both sources supplying phantom power. Would I need a separate phantom power source like a ps-2? This doesn't sound plausible because I can't turn the phantom power off on the m148. Is there a way to power it just off the m148 and not the ua-5?
My other question is, what cables/splitters would I need to split the signal from the mics? Also, are there any other caveats I should know of?
Thanks,
Dave

not sure, but the only way i can think of how to do it, would be to run a phantom adapter behind the mics, then through a splitter > to the 2 pre's > 2 separate decks. Good luck.

dave thinking of getting rid of that m148 :) if u decide to let me know..i know somebody who would take it off your hands ;D

Thata boy Dave.... you know who's next in line for that piece. ;D

you would have to turn off phantom on both pre's and provide phantom using a ps-2 or the like, and split the signal from there....shoot Scott an email, he did this a few times when the Minime and V3 initially came out....

I don't think your going to be able to run this comp with the brick.

That's what I'm afraid of :(
+T to everybody for their help

Why not? You can have phantom on in one or both units, so long as they remain in parallel. Scott and I split a pair of 4022s to a V3 and ULN-2 last summer. We used the phantom in the V3 only. The only challenge is that changing gain on one unit affects levels on the other a little bit.

or if you want to...find a show that you want to do this at, and I can send my gefells out and you can do a same stand compare....

Interesting. What cables/splitter did you need to split the signal? Is it something I could pick up at rat shack?

It was a Hosa XLR splitter out of the mics.
4022 > splitter > V3/UlN-2

I guess a music store like Sam Ash is probably my best bet for this. Thanks for the info Matt +T
