mmmmk. im totally new at this and i need to know what wires to buy. im planning on a couple schoeps>apogee mini me>jb3
also should i buy a preamp even though there is one in the mini me?

if you have the money, get a preamp to go infront of the minime. I like the way the V2 and the MiniMp sound with the minime, ymmv. The Oade m148 also sounds nice but it's not variable gain and you'll have to use a screwdriver to adjust levels. There is an Oade m248 for sale still in the yard sale section, the schoeps/m248/apogee combo is hard to beat imo. I'd buy it, if I had the funds, http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=19771.0
as for mic cables (not wires) you'll need a 15 foot pair to go from mics to minime. If you get a seperate pre to go wth the minime you'll also need a 3foot pair to go from preamp to minime. How much do you want to sepnd? There are a lot of options available to you.

ill look into a preamp- probably an mp
what would i use to hook up the mini me to a jb3?
also i see on source sometimes people put (for example) mini me>dat>jb3. could someone please explain this to me? is it just backing up the file or is it something more?
-
you can take the optical out of the minime to the jb3. i think the plug on the minime is a toslink so you would need to get a toslink to mini optical cable.
as for the source info, the taper either ran both a jb3 and d8 by sending the optical out to the jb3 and the coax out to the dat. or someone with a jb3 was patched out of the dat. most likely the former.
HELLO! MY name is DUMBASS! thanks tim.
you're going to need a digital converter box to convert the coax signal to an optical signal to run mme>jb3. the hosa box has been tested and approved by tapers. Dr. Phob is currently investigating into the very affordable radio shack converter box.

No optical on the minime, only on the ad500e and the ad1000

and if youve never setup mics and taped, it may not be for you, just keep that in mind before you spend 5k on gear ;)
