Title: Schoeps A20S shockmount and MG/AKG mics?
Post by: nickgregory on July 27, 2004, 10:27:17 AM
I am curious if anyone has used this mount with MG or AKG mics? I think if it fits the AKG 480 series, it should fit the MGs.  Just curious, looking to slim down my mount profile...

appreciate any input!

have you tried those little shure mounts? I forget the model number but they fit the 480'sand are very small, maybe even lower profile than the Schoeps mount.

I did, the MGs are just to big for them....

I did some reading/searching/asking around here before i grabbed a shockmount and i definitely read more than once that the shure mount works but it's tight.  same thread recommended the a20s as well i think.

I got an a20s and it fits an mbho 603 perfectly, i think your mics are the same size or darn close.

I have had the shures, I can guarantee you that the gefells dont fit them....I need to check the diameter on the 603s though...that may solve my problem...thanks.

so after a quick search, the specs section of the mbho page are dead links for the 603...any idea as to the diameter of the mic?

a20 is for 20mm diameter bodies.

is the a20s for bigger bodies?

note the change above...  20mm is the correct diameter.

A20s has the stiffer elastic bands vs. the A20.  I would definitley recommend the stiff bands as you will often see the regular bands go limp with heavier loads like with capsules in an ortf/din/dina/nos bar.

thanks, I will measure them when I get home...I am considering moving to a Vark and A20s mounts if the mics fit....

FWIW, I ran the a20s mounts in a shure bar this past week at the Truckers show in Greenville and they worked great.  I have found the schoeps mounts more manageable than the AT mounts.

that is good to hear....my current mounting setup of the shure bar and AT mounts are just too big and heavy.  From what I have seen of the Vark bar I can still accomplish all of the stereo positioning I want to do and it weighs significantly less than the shure bar.  The A20S mounts are just smaller...if they weigh less that is a bonus as well....

ok, got the A20s mounts today, and while the mics are tight in the fitting, they fit....and the mounts are extremely low profile, especially when you compare them to what I was using (AT8410s).  I may take the "cradle" that holds the mics and just leave it on the mics and string it into the mount every time I use it, but have not decided that yet.  I will take some pics after the var bar gets here of the full setup.
