add markers with the [insert] key which is over the delete key

tools > auto split (and follow the pop-up boxes to auto split the wav at the markers)

oh yeah, i'm using wavelab5...not sure about earlier versions

Thanks for asking the question and for answering. I was trying to figure this out last night and sure enough this place had the answer before I could get to post my request.

You can select which type of marker to drop as well.  Hitting insert just drops a generic marker.  There is a marker toolbar that you can use that calls up a marker dialogue box.  From there you can select cd markers that snap to quantization points for perfect boundary sections.  You can also name the markers there, or auto name.  Right clicking on the marker heads will also bring up the dialogue box.  If you use the cd markers (red heads) you don't have to save the whole file as in with generic markers (blue or yellow heads).

I track the whole file out using cd markers and name with .flac naming convention.  Then, I go to the file>new>cd project and add the whole wave file.  It then tracks it out for writing.  Select cd>save all tracks as individual files in the directory of your choice.  From there, you can burn the cd and when done, open flac frontend or shntool  and drag/drop the individual tracks for compression/archival purposes.

Make sense?  I am away from my home computer so some of the commands may be off by a smidge.  But, you should see what I mean if you mess around with it.

not sitting infront of my lappy right now but you can also open a tool bar for markers.  Also once you track out the show you can save each track as an individual file.  I do this because I can't seem to burn CDs from wavelab.  Nero won't recognise the tracks if you try to add the whole file, so I save them seperatly in a new folder then upload the whole folder to Nero, add faders, remove spaces between tracks, and BURN.  Look for directions later this evening. :D

View > Control Bars > Marker Toolbar will drop the marker toolbar on the WaveLab desktop

To save each track individually:

Open Basic CD window:  File->new->basic audio cd

Toolbar will now have a CD menu, choose 'save each track individually'.

I always use CDWave (http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~mjmlooijmans/cdwave/) for track splitting. I've had problems with other software inserting microgaps. CDWave is suppose to be flawless.

Thanks to everyone that posted instructions for using wavelab for splitting. I tried it and it just wasn't as easy (for me) to use as cdwav. Maybe it's just me because I've been using cdwav for 6 years and the UI is second nature now.

I don't use CDwav because the version that I downloaded would not work with 24 bit files...so I figured out how to use wavelab since it was the only other program I had.  Just trying for the path of least resistance.  My computer skills really suck so once I get something figured out I tend to stick with it.  Other people I know use CDwav...seems like a nice program for sure.  I simply couldn't get  it to work. :-\  So far no problems with gaps, clicks, pops, or any other unwanted side-effects.

The latest version (1.92, I believe) should work fine with 24 bit files.  If you're looking to Flac the split wavs you'll want to use "Alternate file format" when performing the 'Save'.

After replacing 1.9.3 with 1.9.1, I could save the files in 'alternate 24-bit format' and then was able to open the saved files in wavelab.

1.9.3 does not have the 'alternate format' option. I read in the documentation somewhere that they view the 'alternate format' option in 1.9.1 as a backward compatible feature that they got rid of in 1.9.3.
