Hey guys,
Well yesterday my new AKG 480s with the CK61 and CK63 caps arrived! I'll be breaking them in this weekend at the Nedfest festival in Nederland, CO.
Since I've never owned a pair of mics with switchable attenuation and a bass cut filter built in, I have a stupid question: has anyone out there running these mics ever had to use either of these features? I can see using the +6 dB setting in certain situations possibly, but is bass distortion really that big of a problem with these mics? What settings do you AKG folks generally use for the typical rock concert? For the most part, I'm strictly a OTS guy. Lame, I know.
Thanks for any advice for my AKG-newbie ass.

leave them on nothing, i dont think anyone here really ever uses the switchable attenuation

When I was running my 480s straight into the da-p1 I had to run the mics -10 and the da-p1 at -20. At times I still was concerned about brickwalling. I've never touched the bass rolloff though.

well I don't know, I always use my bass roll off for everything except bluegrass, otherwise my recordings are way too bass heavy, it may be the mics or it may be my MiniMe or it may be the combination of them, with the bass roll off engaged and my MiniMe in operation my recordings sound well balanced, you will just have to try the mics out with the roll off engaged and with it disengaged and see how differently they sound, then go with what works best, I have never used the anti attenuation feature but I think you only need to use it when you are very close to the source such as perhaps on stage recording, that's my own experience but it may differ from that of others

Thanks for all the help, guys! Dre, I got the CK63s along with the CK61s and the 480 bodies, all for $1k. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me. From what I've heard, there isn't a lot of difference in price between buying these caps new or used. They seem to really retain their value.
I broke in the mics w/ the CK61 caps at Nedfest this weekend. I couldn't be happier with the results! I think I have a new favorite microphone... :)

I've been running 480s > dap1 and leaving the mics as is and running the p1 -20
