I started makin' a Vu meter from a kit and want to hook a RC female plug to power the unit w/ a 9.6Nimh and Duel RCA stereo cable on the in1, in2, and ground pins. I hacked off the ends of the RCA plugs and have to shielded wires both surrounded by wire and I am assuming the surrounding wire is ground and the two sheilded wires are left and right. I hooked up my VU board like so and the unit started to smoke so I unplugged my 9.6 voltNimh and I am assumin' I have cross wirin' goin' on and needs to be corrected. Any input or experiences w/ such would be very helpful and I would be grateful. Thanks again.
Peace

Duh-uhh-uhhh!!!! Dumb ass me!!!! I just realized while solderin' in the dark outside defendin' myself from a skunk. I soldered the DC power in reverse and I well have to correct this in the mornin'. Sorry ::)

I installed the plus and minus correctly on the DC pins but still not powering up!!! I put my 9.6Nimh battery on the charger hopin' the fact that mabey its not totally charged is the problem. I cheched contininity, voltage, and resistance on the VU board and beneath. I am puzzled if my fully charged battery doesn't do it then what? Could I have blown the board last night while the plus and minus was reversed?
Thanks for all your help.
Peace

Which led light kit are you using? I've had experience with 2 different ones and 2 different results.

Yep, the 9.6 V should do the trick. So maybe you did blow something when it started smoking?
