hey,
so i'm looking at some superlux mics and was wondering what would be the best option. wonder how much price difference there would be and which would probably give me the best outcome. would be taping small/medium size clubs.
ART Phantom II>AD-20
or
PS-2>AD-20
or
UA-5 (with one of the mods)
or
Something I'm not thinking of that may work well

Go with the UA-5... and you don't necessarily need a preamp mod... just the digimod will do fine... I run Superlux > Ua-5 > JB3 and it works out real nice... I used to use the Artcessories Phantom II and it was a nice little box until I fried it accidentally by hooking it up to an SLA... an AD-20 will set you back a fair bit... round $200. You can find used UA-5s for $200 and they do it all.... so unless you're really concerned about the size of your rig (in which case, go for ps-2 > ad-20) then the UA-5 is your best bet.

If you have the money go lux>warm mod. UA-5. :)

Mike I have a warm mod UA5 that I used to tape some some shows with my superluxes befor I got my AKG's. I loved the tapes, & I kept the mics, cause they kick but. If you want I can send you a show or two for your listening enjoyment. If you go the UA5 route, get it from oades cause they will only mod units they sell. Start with the stock unit, then you can upgrade if you want. Good luck, Team Lux kicks budget ass!
