Title: Maha Powerbank...anyone use these?
Post by: nickgregory on August 13, 2004, 08:39:24 PM
I am thinking these could be nice alternatives to regular 6 volt SLAs.....would be great if I could use them to power my sbm, D100 and mp2...

how long do you get out of it for the sbm1?  Did you have to buy adapters or did the plugs that come with it fit?

the plugs that come with it include one that fits the d100/sbm1. run time on the modsbm is at least 4 hours, i've never stress tested.

I may have to get a couple of these to power my sbm1 and d100...two of them have to weigh less and take up less space than a 6 volt SLA...

picked one of these up last week in an effort to help slim down my bag...right now I carry this powerbank for my D100 and a 6V for my V3...will report back on results of how it does runtime wise tonight!

Devil's advocate here -- Looks to me like this is nothing more than 4x 1800mah nimh aa batteries in a nice case.

Why not just buy high capacity aa sized nimh batteries (1800 mah to 2500 mah) are available and run them internally in your d100 and sbm-1.  With the d100, if you just change batteries with tapes, you'd NEVER have a problem (and with high capacity nimh batteries, you'd likely have no problem running a pair for the entire nite), with the sbm-1, one set of batteries should last at least as long as the external powerbank -- worst case, change batteries when you change on the d100 and you're fine.  This way, no cords/adaptors/etc., bag can't get much slimmer.

fair question..here is my logic...flawed or not :)

I am only using this powerbank to power my D100 (not the sbm1 as originally planned as I have bought a V3), and only using it in open taping situations (for the time being).  What it gives me over rechargeables is the ability to not have to swap batteries at any point for a show where you are getting the openers, and long sets from the main band.  Strictly convenience of not having to swap batts.
