Title: DIN and NOS with 4022's
Post by: jbraveman on August 17, 2004, 08:50:19 PM

What do I need to be able to run DIN or NOS with the 4022s?

I have a pair of compact shock mounts (Type CSM4000).

It seems like a stereo bar of some sort that was adjustable from 20-30cm would do the trick.  Somehow I'd have to adjust the angle of the microphrones.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Josh

I also have the dpa ortf/xy bar - so that's not an issue.

Why did you use the angled stock instead of something straight and flat?

I saw Mic D's pictures in the other thread (I have his 4022's ;D).

I've been trying to think of a way to put a spacer between the two ends of the shock mounts so that the distance between the caps is correct.

The AKG or the SabraSOM bar looks like an option with the shock mounts.  Will the AKG bar do NOS?

Thanks,
Josh

There's some one on this board (Ben C.) that made a spacer for his shocks, to run NOS. Maybe he'll chime in soon.

I use 2 small threaded extender bars to increase the spacing when using 2 of the CSM4000 shock mounts with a single Schoeps A20S mount (mounted horizontal like in Mic D's pic).

One of the extender bars came with my A20s. The other one came with a McArthur group stereo t-bar. It's pricey but I really wanted the flexibility of spacing and angle with the 4022's.

You can peep the stereo bar and extender piece at

Using the 2 extender bars with the CSM4000 mounts puts the spacing at right about 12 inches with the mounts butted up against one another.

Take care,
Ben

PS: I would not recommend running the 4022's at an angle less than 90°. I was back in the pavilion for the Dead at Deer Creek this summer (about halfway between the SBD and back row of the pavilion) and ran the 12" spacing but pointed the mics directly at the stacks (maybe ~45°??), it sounds VERY bright and uncomfortably harsh at elevated volume levels. Pretty nasty and not fun to listen to, I think I would have been better off running ORTF, even from so far back.

DPA also makes an extender bar (EXY4000). They're not that cheap, though.
