I'm trying to transfer a DAT I taped last night using my M-Audiophile USB in CD Wave@ 44.1 16-bit Stereo. I select the source as M-Audiophile USB SPDIF but get an error when trying to start the recording. It says "Specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Check Capabilities function to determine the supported formats". Under Capabiliteies for the M-Audiophile SPDIF 44.1 16 bit stereo is checked as a supported format. Any ideas? I really hope I just missed something obvious. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... I'll try it. The next step may be re-installing CD Wave (or just not transfering the show).

few checkpoints:
PC Settings:
(W2k) Control Panel > Sound/Multimedia Properties:
1. under Audio > Sound Recording Preference should be set to your MAudio S/PDIF.
other OS have similiar setting controls, but i can't comment on those.
MAudio Control Panel:
1. under Monitor Mixer > set all volumes to max (this step isn't necessary);
2. under Patchbay/Router > H/W 1/2 = S/PDIF in;
3. under Hardware Settings > choose S/PDIF in and the correct sampling freq. of your recording
CDWave:
1. hit Record button (red dot) > a window will popup;
2. under Destination > name the file;
3. under Format > choose the correct Frequency (48k, 44.1k, 32k); choose the correct Channel (Stereo L+R); choose the correct Resolution (16bit)
4. under Options and Stop Criteria > self explanatory
5. hit Start. you should see signal being recorded.
good luck;

Thanks Marc, as soon as I get home I'll run through that checklist. I was playing around in the control panel and have some idea what my settings should be. I've transfered DAT's before so I thought I'd be all set until I got this error. Very frustrating. I run XP.
