Post by: caymanreview on August 23, 2004, 02:39:51 AM
ive only ever had the choice to run cards or hypers there before, but now this will be my first trip there with the TL's

il hopefully be dfc in on the rail fob...

what would you run?

cards? hypers? fig 8? omnis?

i really dont have much/if any expeience with the fig8/omnis and only know of running the bleumann(SP?) with the fig8's

Cards or omnis in my opinion. At Blues Traveler in March both omnis and cards were ran (AKG and MG respectively) and both sounded quite nice (both into Mini-Me's). If you get on the balcony for whatever reason I'd run hypers, but since the drink rail is at a pretty good distance from the stage, I'd recommend cards.

i was thinking cards also...

ive never had to tape from the balcony before, even when it was a packed house.

where are you from, and who else was there for blues traveler? ive met a few tapers there, but only one ts.com member       (BC- ben cho)

you hitting umphreys friday by any chance?

Quad Cities. Kevin Robbins and Steve Sax (I think that's his last name) were there for that show. Nope, I won't be there for Umphrey's but will be in Davenport Thursday for Blues Traveler (again!).

Yep, Kevin will be there on Friday. I hope to catch Umphrey's there sometime this fall but things are pretty crazy for me right now.

Totally. However they decided this week to move it to the LeClaire Park Bandshell - kinda mixed feelings about that, but we'll have more space to work with. Should be a fun show.

the show was decent. my first umph show. not real sure on what to take from it. i was really into about half of it and not really into about the same amount

ran hypers DIN, clamped on a pole sticking out from the balcony just left of center. tapes sounded pretty good just listening back on the lappy after the show

i think that from now on, my and my LD mics will be in the balcony. much safer location for such a big setup like that. and not to mention about 40lbs less stand to carry ;)

i think split omnis clamped on each front pole of each side of the balcony is in order. because the front of the balcony is split, i could run 20ft cables and reach the other side and get my mocs out far enough to not have to worry about the people on the other side. and there are bars i can basically run my cables over tot he other side on. they wopuld end up being split about 12' or so...

any thoughts on doing that?

That sounds like a good idea. As I picture this place the balcony is quite a bit farther back then I thought. Split omni's up there would sound pretty good. You might take into consideration the entrance and the bar is right beneath you on the left - could pick up some additional clanging/crowd noise at a 12' spread. Something like a 9' spread could be better.

there is the option of changing the split distance, but that would put me right in the entrance to the bar....

there is a bar that comes out from the balcony towards the stage about 1-2' from the edge of the inside split of the balcony that is perfect thoug. and might block any crowd noise from the bar. i didnt get alot of rear noise on my last tape, even though i ran hypers, im kinda surprised

don't be afraid to run split omnis inside ;)

im going too next time (leftover on the 9th)

i just need some mic cables that are ~20-25ft so that i can get the one mic to the other side of the balcony and have the one where im at

all i have are my 15' zoalla's
