Title: wavelab 5 ASIO driver help...
Post by: caymanreview on August 24, 2004, 06:58:53 AM
im trying to use the asio drivers to record for the first time in testing at home...

i was getting a few clicks/pops and someone said i should always run the asio drivers

when i choose them under playback, and then choose what channels i want (1&2 for mic inputs) i get the visible levels, and everything seems ok...

but when i choose record, the levels fall off and there is nothing recorded

am i missing something here??? ive messed with it for a few hours and cant get it to work... any help?

it seems to be a bug, cause the same thing happens to me.  Step back to v4.01 and all will be well...  Or don't use the ASIO I suppose...

I don't really have an answer to your problem but the MMe ASIO driver works great in 5.0a.  I'm assuming your using the ASIO on the F410. So like scooter says, step back to 4.0 & see if that doesn't fix the problem.

The crashing when auto split is engaged is deffinately a bug in 4.0g.  Sometimes it happens after the 1st split & sometimes it doesn't.  The only thing you can do is to just let it keep running if it gives you an error message.  It will still be recording even after the error message.  Once you shut it down the file's header won't be written properly, so you'll have to open it as a RAW to retrieve the data.  Once you've got it back open save as .wav with the proper bit depth & sampling rate.

well...

i have found that i have copies of 4.0g and 4.0f and apparently both have issues with the auto split becuase in testign this morning i encountered errors with both

im thinking il run 4.0g and just run 24/48... so i should be all set since the asio drivers work perfect with 4.0f+g and at 24/48 i shouldnt have anything go past 2 gigs

what happens with wavelab when it hits 2+gigs and doesnt have auto split on?

It will just stop recording with an error stating file has become too large to continue recording.

I've experienced the same problems trying to use the FW 1814 through Wavelab 5 Demo trying to use the ASIO drivers. Since I'm looking to multitrack live...and the autosplit is very necessary to what I'm doing (4 tracks 24/96)...I'm wondering if you ever found a resolution to the problem.  :-\

If you wanna run ASIO you need to ditch WaveLab. Only shortcoming of that program....maybe a few others... ;)

Sony Vegas 5 works perfect with ASIO and has support for large files (i.e >2gb) using .w64 files which can then be edited in Vegas or SoundForge and then you can  use WaveLab for anything else you may need.

Tried Vegas and it did not function the way I needed it to (i.e., 4 discreet tracks in real time using the FW 1814). Also, I wasn't looking for the video capabilities of Vegas. But for this ASIO situation, Wavelab works very well for my needs. I've had no problems recording 24/96 in two track.

There is an update to the ASIO drivers for Wavelab...but unfortunately you have to have the full version of Wavelab 5 with the CD in order to apply the patch (and I'm just running the demo right now). I'm checking with a couple different sources to determine if the patch works in this situation or not. Be a bummer to plunk down the $$ for Wavelab 5 to discover it won't work even with the patch.
