I'm thinking of buying multiple pattern LD mics. One obvious choice is ADK A-51 TLs. They sound really great and lots of people run them. I am also interested in the Studio Projects C-3. The SP large diaphram C-1 and C-3 got very good reviews, but I've not heard of anybody using them for recording shows. People around here really like their C-4 pairs. I really like the recordings I've heard with the SP LSD-2, which I think uses the same LD condensers as the C-1 and C-3.
So, here's my questions:
1. Anybody around here ever run the C-3?
2. If the C-1, C-3, and LSD-2 use the same condensers, why do they have different low-end response (2o Hz, 40 HZ, 30 Hz, respectively)?
3. How much does it matter that the C-3 frequency response of the C-3 is 40 - 40K (the TL has a 20 - 20 K frequency response)?
4. Should I care that SP does not sell matching pairs of the C-3?
5. Can I get my hands on a pair of these to test out before I buy them?
I know that Allen from SP reads this board occasionally. Maybe he'll answer my questions. I'd also like to hear other opinions.

i can only speak to 4 and 5. it seems that sp's quality control actually makes it good enough to get close enough to a matched pair. additionally, i bet if you email alan he can answer number 4 and also see about number 5

I know this is an old thread, but I couldn't find much via search, so I'm resurrecting it.
Anyone have any experience with these mics now that a year has gone by?

I got a cheap pair of almost new C1s off ebay and am satisfied with their performance. Studio Projects makes great mics for the price.

The Studio Projects LSD2 is just made up of two C3 mics if you will. Look around and you can find threads and Music devoted to the microphone. My guess is two C3s would be a fine thing.

The C-1 has the same capsules as the C-3 and LSD mics. I think the discrepency in the low end specs that I originally asked about is a typo. The documentation that I got with my mics indicated that they all have the same low-end range. I think I paid about $300 for my pair of C-1s. Cardioid only, but a real bargain at that price. Of course, now I'm thinking of "upgrading" but that has little to do with the quality of the SP mics.
