Title: Noise in recording
Post by: ts on September 17, 2004, 10:51:26 AM
Have some noise in left channel caused by a bad cable shorting out. Mostly intermittent, but I'd like to try and clean it up. All I have is CE2K. Anything I can do to it?

easiest thing to do is copy the good right channel over top the noise in the left channel.

How does one do that. Get rid of left channel completely? In CE2K?

2 options - highlight the section and go effects, channel mixer and set it up.  This creates a 'hard edit' and may be audible.  The other option is to copy, mix paste, (replace) and use the crossfade option to smooth the transition.  The whole thing is easier if you mark all your cue points so you can get to the right spot when you're pasting.

Yikes! I forgot to mention, I'm 44 years old and only used Cool Edit a couple times for resampling. If it wasn't for the JB3 I bought this summer, I'd still be transferring shows the old way. Sorry guys, but I really get lost in this Cool Edit stuff. :-[ Could someone slowly walk me thru it this weekend.
Thanks, Tony

Here is the quick and dirty way to do it.  Like dklein said, the transitions between where the channels were mixed may be audible.

Below are quick screen shots I took with unbalanced channels to make the example more obvious:

Effects > Amplitude > Channel Mixer

Select the appropriate preset, both = left or both = right.
