Tonight, I was put on the guest list to tape a local band that is opening for Blue Oyster Cult in my neck of the woods.
I want to run my UA-5 between the SBD and the JB3 to use as an ADC so I can feed the JB3 an optical signal. My question is, will running SBD > UA-5 > JB3 make a SBD signal too "hot" and cause the signal to brickwall? I will run the tape out of the SBD to the RCA In's on the rear of the JB3. (at least that is the plan, or unless its a DSBD). I'm hoping if the signal is "hot" then I can just adjust the gain lower on the UA-5 and keep the signal manageable into the JB3.
I'm just a little more nervous since I'm being compensated by the opening band w/ the guest list and a few beers and I dont want to screw it up.
Any and all opinions welcome,
TIA,
Jimmc

When I run SBD>UA5>JB3, I use 2x RCA>1/4" TRS cables (make some with adapters, etc) and run them into the front panel of the UA5. I then use the gain knobs to adjust...
But yeah, depending on how hot the board is, you may be running pretty hot...
I know when I used to run XLRs out fo the board, it was way hot. I thought about getting attenuators...

the RCA's on the back are looking for a line-level signal, which is what the board will be putting out. The problem might be that if the board is putting out +4 line level, and I believe the ua5 is looking for a -10 (i'm not sure on this), you could run into some overload there. I usually deal w/ Mackie boards, and the lower end versions have a "tape out" that is RCA, and I run out of that. Basicaly, it just depends on what the FOH gives you for a feed...

2nd that on using the rears. I *believe* the fronts are at unity turned all the way down, whereas the rears provide actual attenuation. Check it yourself - just throw a line level signal in there - or a crank up a headphone output for something hotter.

+T all around for the tips. Keep 'em coming.
Oh, the show got rained out, but I'm sure I'll have another chance at this soon.
