Hello Board
Is there a setup guide for hooking the SBM-1 used with OKMII/R plus a M1.
Switch settings for them? should I use the OKM´s A3 little box ?
I have tested various combinations but cannot find the "exact one"
Thanks

i know ppl who've used the OKM w/ sbm-1, w/o the A3. seems like a good choice. dunno about switches though.

i dont know how a SBM-1 works, but if it works dont use the A3. The A3 is just to power the mics and has two settings that no-one ever uses. I keep them off at all times. Its very fragile aswell.

You whould check this DAT-heads post : http://www.solorb.com/dat-heads/digests/V6.000/D068#Msg3
Depending on what kind of music you are recording, you are going to use mic in or line in of the SBM.
The A3 provides 6V to the mics. I do not know about the voltage provided by the mic in of the SBM...
Maybe the A3 better powers the mics (?) so it has to be used (?).
Your setup would then be : OKMII/R>A3>SBM1>M1.

My take on this is as follows:
1) For high SPL handling: get mic power from the A3. (The SBM-1 puts out less than 3 Volts if memory serves).
2) For lowest noise go with the A3 (avoid the sbm-1 mic-pre).
3 For best signal integrity use line in (avoid sbm-1 mic-pre brickwalling).
4) Adjust the A3 pad for "optimum" gain (attempt to stay "high" on the sbm-1 record dial).
NB Point 4 is to be confirmed by you - I don't remember the details of the A3 "gain stage". Listen for noise with shorted inputs and possibly also compression effects with the A3 in high gain(thd)

Hello Jon
Thanks for the advise
so use the A3 to feed the OKM´s
Isually take (ta´pe) high SPL so............ would go LINE IN...... ( I always use LINE IN)
Final question: where should Hook my OKM´s? on the SBM input or my M1

Well, if you're going to use the SBM1, you'll have no choice but to hook up your mics to it. If not, you'll have to go M11.
