If I want to use a USB2 port with a USB2 device, do I need a special cable for that, or does the spec work over the same cables I use for my "regular" USB devices?
-
i believe you need a cable that can handle 2.0, but that being said, I've never seen a usb cable not able to take 2.0
-
yep!
make sure the usb ports are 2.0 too, i thought mine were, but they're not. :(

Yeah, my laptop has 2.0 ports (checked in device manager). I need to see if my desktop "additional motherboard ports" are 2.0 or 1.1. Time to hit the mobo manufacturer's website. Thanks, fellas!

you dont need a special cable. a usb cable is a usb cable whether 1.1 or 2.
some cables may have more shielding than others, but that is the only difference
just make sure you plug into the 2.0 ports of your machine(many machines have 1.1 AND 2.0 ports)
