i have been using the jb3 since early summer without any issues. however, all good things must come to an end.
i have been using the optical line in mode to record, with much success, but last night when i hit record, the timer was extreeemly slow. it would tick one second for every 30 real-time seconds. i experimented with the other recording modes and they do not have the same issue.
i powered down and tried it....didn't work
i reset the machine....didn't work
i reinstalled the latest firmware....didn't work
i have searched several faq pages, but i can't find any hints on how to fix this problem. does anyone know what the problem is?
any help would be much appreciated.

what was feeding your jb3 the optical signal?
-
optical kinked?
-
sounds really wierd that it would click one sec for every realtime sec
i experienced probs going ua5 > jb3 when it was accidently on 96khz when the ua5 was turned on... but that makes it click 2 secs for each real time sec and sound reeeaaalllyy slow on playback

Ok - redo - (I need to read more carefully.)
Yeah - break in the cable? hmmmp -
Does the socket feel solid when its plugged in...? Sometimes it doesn't take much stress to break those sockets off the circiut board...
-
the cables (i tried 2) were fine, so was the connection. everything was solid.
i was plugged into the board, and a friend tried his md in the same plug with no problems.
would not having a good sound source effect the recording time?
also, this only happened with optical. it was fine with regular line in.

i just had a thought.
could it be that the board was sending out analog? it didn't think to use the a/d. duh?!?!
-
Uhhh yeper...you have to set it for analog line in - not optical...
The optical and analog input are the same jack...unless you have some red laser light coming out of the end of your cable....select the analog input....

low power on the batts running the invertor?>weak optical signal
