Title: CD Wave issues/questions
Post by: Mitchell (Jake and Sawyer's Dad) on October 07, 2004, 12:14:32 PM
I will be using this to put tracks in my sets from a JB3, but I tried it out last night trying to go from a disc - I had mucho problems.  I have a disc of one of my bands shows that a friend recorded to a digital recorder.  It is in .wav format, but not tracked.

Here is what I did:

Downloaded version 1.93.3
Opened the program
Put my disc in the drive
Clicked "File", then "Extract CD Audio"
I then pick the directory where I want to disc to be extracted to
It them starts its process.
When the process is done, I get an error message, although, the screen is filled with wavelengths, etc indictate that there is something there!
I press play, and it plays at like 5 times the normal speed.

What am I doing wrong?  Do I need to save the disc on my computer first, then import it into CD Wave??

Help!!!!!!!!!! :-[ ::) :P :'(

You may want to try extracting from the CD using EAC. I am sure there is a link for it on etree.org. I've never used CDWav for extraction, so I have no idea how good/bad it is. EAC is great for extraction.

So - if I use EAC, does it just extract it to a directory but keep it in .wav?  I am guessing I would extract the file from the CD, save it on my computer, then open it with CD Wave and track it?

it'll save the file as a wav, however, if the wav is already split on the cd, you'll get multiple wavs.

Its not already spilt - that is why I am using the CD Wave - to put track splits in.  Right now, it is just one long track on the CD.

DL and install Exact Audio Copy.
Extract to your HD using EAC, if you use the "uncompressed" feature, it will save as 16/44.1 WAV.
Open the WAV in CDWave.
Track.
Save.
Done.

just dont forget, configuring EAC for optimum drive read iffset is VERY tricky, it takes a store-bought cd and a few blanks to configure properly :)

remember sector boundaries in cdwave too

________________|_____________
song A 44:56.00  (split) 44:56.01 song B

it should look like that when you split.

another thing mitch, i just tried doing a DAE in cdwave exactly like you did, mine was flawless :)

did you use jitter correction ???

if there were errors, your disc may be too scratched for the DAE in that to work, maybe try EAC, but give it another go w/ jitter correction :)

What the hell is jitter correction?!?!?! :-X :o ;D

I did a DAE at work here today with a LivePhish Cd I have in .wav - it worked great.  Maybe it is the show/disc I am using.  It is in .wav format.  It is just really weird because once it is on my computer and in CD Wave, it plays super fast.

Would this have anything to do with my soundcard (my hunch is no.)?

no, nothing to do w/ soundcard :)

jitter correction is on the panel for the DAE in cdwave :)

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :o :o ;D :D 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Wow, am I pumped!  I simply copied the contents of the cd over into a directory on my computer (without using EAC) and then opened it as a file from CD Wave and it came out perfectly!  I tracked it easily, and then burned it!

I am not as big a moron as I thought I was!!!!!

Now, if I can just figure out how to get a better signal from my NT4 (wich is a pwered condensor mic - with a 9v battery) to my JB3 so I can record without having to spend hundreds on a pream and external power source................ ;D ::)
