Title: Where'd my juice go...?
Post by: macroint on October 16, 2004, 02:55:31 AM
This is the second time I've had this problem mess up a tape...and since I've only gone three times, that's not a very good average.

Went to Assembly of Dust/Cast Iron Filter at the Funkbox (Baltimore) Friday night (met Kevinb from Philly and Graham from Delaware)...the 9v that I used in the PS-2 and AD-20 were not new, but only used a max of one hour each. I got the opening set (about an hour) and I took the batteries out until the next band came on. The battery in the PS-2 tanked 25 minutes into the set.

At the setbreak, I went out and picked up a new 9v...15 minutes into the second set, the battery in the AD-20 died. I didn't bother trying to do anything since I could get the show from the other guys.

Two nights previous, on a different set of 9v', I got the first set of DSO (about an hour) and the battery in the AD-20 died about thirty minutes in. I had used those batteries to tape another show (an hour) and I used those batteries when setting up my gear for the first time. I MAY have left the batteries in the AD-20 and PS-2 a total of 5 hours. That's 7.5-8 hours of use...but this last pair lasted no more than three hours. Sure, I could put new batteries in and watch them until they die...but maybe there's a more efficient way of figuring why this is happening.

the type of mics you use makes in a difference in how long the PS-2 will run.
I used to run the PS-2/AD-20 combo with MBHOs, which will slurp some juice.
a brand new energizer or duracell 9V in the PS-2 would last about 90-100 minutes.
a new battery in the AD-20 would last about 5 hours or so.
the 5 hours of runtime you got on one set seems reasonable in my experience.
maybe the 1.5 hours you got with the second set was due to bad/stale batteries?

if you want longer runtimes and the option to use rechargable AAs, here is a battery pack:

I ran this with the PS-2 and would get around 7-8 hours.
I think the 9.6V RC car batteries could be used too.

Macroint - what type/brand of batteries are you using?  never go the cheap route... I use Energizer E2 or Duracell only. And I use a fresh set every show or two.

Except for buying a Duracell during the set break last night, been using Energizers...
