Title: wmod or pmod?
Post by: The Kilted Taper on October 19, 2004, 10:42:54 AM
Putting this to a vote to you Nak users....Looking to pick up a UA-5. Those using the Naks and the UA-5, do you have the pmod, wmod, or just the digimod, and why? Thanks!

What, no love for the t-mod?

I don't run Naks, but I've used the p-mod and the t-mod with my Josephsons.  They have a presence rise anyway, so the p-mod was a little redundant (not that I was ever unhappy with the tapes, they actually sound damn nice).  The t-mod is pretty sweet - smooth and tight - it just lets the mics do the work in shaping the sound.

My $0.02, and probably doesn't help your question much.

Happy hunting.

Right now my UA-5 is just a digi-mod (done by Oade).  Hopefully in the future, I will get one of the mods done.
I run CM300>Nak MX-100>UA-5>JB3 and I'm very happy w/ the results.  Would a P, T or W mod help, no doubt, but since I'm on a budget, I'm happy until I save up the money for a mod.
I have heard a lot of Mark's, from this boards, shows that are CM300>w-mod UA-5>D7, and I think the w-mod sounds really nice.
I wish I've heard more shows w/ the P and T-mods.
Maybe doing a search on archive.org is in order to listen to some different sources.
Hope this is helpful,
Jim

I'm actually doing this as I type (looking for shows with a mod source). I've been leaning towards the wmod, but may just go with the digi now. $295 for one or $500 for the wmod. In the long run it may make more sense to do the wmod now. Oh, the internal struggle.

I like my w-mod, but sometimes I wish I woulda gotten a pmod.  Unfortunately, I don't have the mics you discuss, so I can't comment...  :-\

pfife -- have you used your wmod ua5 with your rode nt4?
how does it help the aussie mics?

I think it was lacking clarity, overall... but, I have been noticing lately that my playback system, in general, lacks clarity... I could try to dig up a source if you wanted to hear a bit.

Wait...the w/p/t mods make it $500 if you get it done through Oade?

Guess that makes my decision a lot easier...

I think each mod is a different price. But each includes the digimod. I believe the p-mod is $550 and the w-mod is $500

It's, what, $350 or something like that with just the digimod?

I run CM301's>Wmod and like it.  I have not heard a Pmod or Tmod yet, but would like to compare by doing 1st set of a show, same venue, same band, etc with one, 2nd set with other.

Check out www.rochestergroove.net under Krispytunes and look up the moe 11-15-03 show.  I taped that with the Wmod.  Enjoy.
