Well i'v had my w-mod ua-5 for about a year now and i love it ... but tommarow i want to do something i have yet to do with it and i just want to check and make sure i'm not going to fuck anything up ... and that is: use one mic with phantom power on. It says in the manual that you should never turn on phantom without proper equpiment plugged in ...but what happens if i only use one input?
Any help much apreciated.

P.S. The reason for using only one mic is i'm going to be recording a friend of mine telling stories for a little collection of travaling stories i'v decided to put together and publish. This guy tells amazing stories ... he once hitched a ride with a trucker who stabbed a guy to death with a screwdriver.

shouldn't be a problem, why not record in stereo?
-
Thanks for the input.
Because i dont want to have to carry an extra mic, cable and shock mount ... its only one voice so stereo seems overkill.
-
but will it not be a 1 channel only recording ???
-
ya thats right, one channel ... i dont understand why your confused :-[

I'm just trying to figure out why you want to make a one channel recording
speech or not,why not have it sound it's best?
-
a screwdriver?
a kid i knew in highschool had a stepdad who, when he was in highschool, got attacked by a guy with a crowbar and he punched him to death.
-
Fuck.... it didn't work :( I'm thinking it must be a bad mic cable, but if its not i'll report back.
-
fwiw even though you'd be recording with one mic hooked up you'd still be making a sereo recording. The other channel will just have no information.

in post just copy the one track to a new wave file left chan, then copy again to right chan. there you have it, two channel mono recording.
