Title: Lowepro bag help - which one to get?
Post by: andrewkw on October 25, 2004, 12:53:25 PM
I know theres been a bunch of bag threads but I couldn't figure out which is the best bag for me.  It doesn't appear any local photo stores have them in stock so i'd probably be ordering online. I'd prefer to order from a store in Canada so I don't have to pay extra taxes and whatnot on it.

heres what I carry :

gefells 210's in the wooden boxes
mini me
1 oade sla
15 foot mic cables
at shockmouts (these are pretty beat up so they can stay on the stand if nessessary)
hosa 312 aes to optical converter + battery
aes, optical and all those misc cables
a digital camera
dpa 4061s
sometimes a camcorder or 2
jb3 but im usually using this as a walkman before shows
hopefully eventually a vu meter if i ever get one

I'm looking at the Lowepro Elite AW but I'd just like to be sure it fits everything.  Since I don't think I can bring all my stuff to a store and see hopefully someone here with a simalar rig knows.  Or if you know of another bag in the same pricerange I am open to that as well.

Currently using a FREE western digital promo bag and putting stuff like the mini me in a seperate box inside to protect it.  Its just not working..

thanks so much for any and all suggestions.  :)

I use what Calico just bought.  I  use the padded notebook pocket for my DA-P1 and built a frame for my UA-5 in the back compartment.  I keep my mics in a padded pistol case in the middle compartment and keep my SLA's in the small front compartment.  I ran the power cables through the internal walls to keep everything looking clean.

I cut some foam to set my Mini-Me and DAT on in the Notebook compartment.
I cut a couple of slits in the compartments so I could run power cables. That's all I had to do to make it work.
I'm really happy with it.

I think a Lowepro Nova 5 would do you good.  I have the Nova 4AW and can cram all I have in there, but I pack light.  Used it Thursday with this:

CM301's in foam pipe insulation for protection
D7
UA-5 with 2 batt cells.
Clamp
35mm SLR
28-80mm zoom
15' cables
misc cables.
DAT's
Batteries
Tbar with Clips (left shockmounts at home)

Recently purchased a Tamrac Expedition Backpack for my camera gear so that the Nova 4 stays with taping gear.

I love my Taurus backpack also. It may be cheaper on the net but if you have a CCity or BBuy in town you can get them out there. It holds a lot of stuff, all my gear and then some  :D
