Title: Notebook for Taping
Post by: charles on October 27, 2004, 08:44:07 PM
Looking for advice on an inexpensive laptop that I can use for taping into Soundforge and Wavelab. That's all I need it for. Is there such thing as a gutted out laptop gear for one sole purpose? If so how might I go about getting one?

on ebay you can find older laptops for pretty cheap and upgrade what you need too, but for laptop taping, a
barebones system can work just fine, look for a 500 mhz process, at least 256mb of ram and a 20 gig HD, but that can be bought after if need be.  thats what i would do if looking for a cheap solution thats quick and easy for laptop taping.

i think dell has some laptops for under $700.  I used to have a link in my email, but its disappeared, i might have it at home tho.  I think they're celeron cpu's tho, nothing all that fancy.

i use a compaq armada M300 like the one below for taping, my Dell was just too big and heavy.  600Mhz i believe.  REALLY small and light.  I use VXpocket 440 @24/48, and never had any clicks/pops at all.  They go for pretty cheap.

Toshiba 3480 or 3490 are great and they have high capacity batteries available. Also nice and small. Can be had on ebay fro around $375 but you will need to upgrade the hard drive. I used one for a while and loved it but had to go back to small stuff (JB3)
