I've taped like 6 shows this week with the Leegeddy Nak 300's.
2 in a bar, Cary Street & Cafe Diem, neo punk & acoustic jazz
1 keller williams in an airplane hanger with a bunch of noisy-ass college kids
make that 3 for the bars. got King Solomon's Marbles (GD cover band) at Mojo's after Mule.
and Mule @ the Landmark.. ots and fob.
only thing left to do now is an outdoor venue ;)
my thoughts so far? In this Nak fanatic's opinion....
The mics clarity, Bass, Mids, Highs and output have totally improved. .
but somehow they seem to have lost some of their Nak characteristic.
While I'm enjoying the "active" setup and all around improved sound, i feel like i gave up some of the "Nak sound".
if you want low cost, high quality "actives" with a Nak-ish sound these are definitely the way to go!
though if you're a geeky Nak purist and have to keep that classy sound, you may wanna leave them alone.
just my $.02

What device provided the power, the Samson PM-4s?
i run mine with AT8533. i believe Mike runs his with AT8533x.

thanks for the reviews mike. i too notice the clarity and more of the punch in the midrange. to my ears, the standard cm300 have a "softer" sound to them.

I use the AT8533.. the 8533x is the same but without mini xlr input. it's a permanent 'fixed' cable thang.
Also the X model has a bass rolloff switch, but with these mics, IMO isn't necessary.
I love the idea that any set of condensers can now be powered via phantom.
and as high as 52v with the AT8533's..
no need for battery boxes on your stealth rig. that's a plus!
are you getting the Mule Halloween torrent Marc?

Marc,
Just for shits and giggles, how would you compare the Franken-Naks to the AT853RX? Thanks.

well, i've actually ran a sample test few weeks ago when i first modded the Naks!!
(at853 cardioid vs. cm300/cp1) > at8533 > mv100 > dat
my opinion.....very close overall. naks were a bit warmer, at853s a bit crisper in the highs and mids. both mics' outputs were fairly equal in db. bass response on both were similar.
