why are these so cheap...two capsules? Sounds like fun...

Interesting. I don't know anything about them, but I do see the Frequency Response only goes down to 30 Hz, so they won't have quite as much bass response as some but that isn;t all that far away from a ton of other mics that go down to 20 Hz.

I use Apex 420 LD mics and they are amazing for their price. I have never seen anyone else use them. If you want to here how the 420's sound check out moe. 7-3-04 HSMF on archive.org
This will give you some idea as to Apex sound.

Their stats are useless cause they don't give you plot or a "+ or -" figure. It could be 30Hz -> 20kHz +/-20dB??

I always though that spec refered to the range that mic would produce "flat" response...

Scooter is correct. A spec without parameters is basically useless data..

for that price though, for two you could get a pair of luxes for the same price? why play with something more subpar than you need?

Superlux mics are no better than Apex IMO. Just because a few tapers use them doesn't mean they are better. I tried the Sound Professionals AT853 back in 98 when no one had a clue and now they are very popular. If people don't test new products no one can say if they are good or bad. Don't get mad this is just my opinion.

I do think the self noise on these is a little high for my tastes though at 24db. Most mics in use for live taping on the lower end are more like 16-18db self noise.

I was just looking at what little freq resp info they give thats all. Personally I think if your gonna go into it cheap go for some At853's or something like you did, more versitile and you can at least unload them when you're done.

Guys - I think the key here is that the mic comes with 2 capsules...omni and card...pretty rare in that price range...
So for a beginner...it provides more oppourtunity to experiment (for the price...)
