I couldn't find an answer as to whether this is possible. It isn't with my MD so I figured it isn't with the JB3 but couldn't tell for sure. I just purchased the unit on ebay so I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. Does anyone know the answer to this?

Whether what is possible? I'm unclear on what you're trying to accomplish.

All files on the JB3 can be transferred via USB or Firewire.

how bout a question.....
are you asking how to transfer a MD to JB3?
if so get a 1/8th male to male stereo plug
hook line out to line in
press play on the md and record on the jb3

i think i understand.. you basically want to use the JB3 as a transfer interface.
you will probably have to record wav files on the jb3 first.
also, with an analog transfer, any track marks will not come over, the jb3 will record to one big wav file.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to avoid recording to the jb3 first, but I'm still giddy about getting the jb3! :p

If you get a minidisc deck with optical out you can do an all digital transfer.
md deck optical out > JB3 optical in > firewire/USB to pc
Saves the trouble of getting a soundcard with digital inputs

Yes, and you get a perfect copy of the linear PCM data that your MD would normally send to its D/A converters. That's as close to a bit literal copy of the MD source as you can get with consumer equipment. It's sure a lot better than re-recording through the line input to your NJB3.

When I was taping on md I used the deck and a Zoltrix Nightingale for bit perfect transfers but I had to optimize the pc and not use it when transferring (to avoid glitches). The JB3 is way easier and never screws up.

I never even thought to use my JB3 for this. It'll be nice to free up the computer. Plus, I can use my portable MD to do the transfers wherever it's convenient. Thanks guys.
