Title: TLS>V2>AD2k...opinions wanted
Post by: bagtagsell on November 13, 2004, 02:25:59 AM
Thinking about running this for really well mixed rooms.  This should be uber clear, and work well with my lap top.  Anyone run this?  Ever run this?

I have a wmod ua-5, thought about running that to cover up some rooms?

Suggestions wanted.

i think it would sound excellent. the TL's shine with the v2,a nd the ad2k would be a nice addition after the v2

24 bit? The ad2k really sounds its best at 24bit, I've found that some of the dithering schemes sound really janky.. some sound really nice, and all depends on what mics you're using..

If you got the V2, I've got my AD2K+ posted in the loaner area, you're more than welcome to try it out. Hell, if the Deva IV works out (the Deva II didn't), then the AD2K+ is going to go on the market. I've been resisting doing that, until later. But for now, you're more than welcome to borrow it to try out with the V2.

I've been running a very non-standard taping rig with the AD2K+ (running with the Wendt X2 and X4 ENG mixers), but I've been happy with a couple of the 16-modes, but have only used the 24-bit mode a couple of times with it.

no, not at all... ad2k is fine once you determine what word-length reduction scheme to use.. there are a lot settings (16?) and some sound better with certain mics than others... I really liked the tapes Phil Lucks was doing with my u89s -  using the V3 analog out to an ad2k@24/96 dithered on wavelab with uv222hr (apogees dithering) to make the 16/44.1 discs - those are my favorite 16bit ad2k tapes. I have heard plenty of other good sounding 16bit ad2k tapes though too.

I think the point I was trying to make was that the ad2k is a really nice converter at 24bit up there with the other options (some people prefer it to the V3 and MiniMe) but it's kind of overlooked.
