Hey a buddy of mine rund schoeps >Mixpre>m1 and hads had problems with this setup.
He says all his tapes are turning out crappy. basically does anyone know how the gain should
be set on the mixpre? I think he has been running it at about 9o'clock.
Since he's using the m1 as the a/d, shouldn't his gain on the m1 be
high (7-9 on the knob) or low (2-4)?
I've never used the sound devices or my m1 as an a/d so i'm no help.
thanks

run the preamp low and the a/d high(er)
Why are his tapes turning out crappy?

I'm not sure. I haven't even heard his tapes yet (I can probably assess the cause a little better
after I hear what he is talking about) I just thought I'd ask here first.
I told him the same thing about pre-low, a/d -high. thanks

as long as the mixpre isn't clipping (bright ass green blinking lights hitting the end of the meter) then there shouldn't be a problem between the pre and the recorder.
What kind of mics? If it's a distortion type problem, any chance the SPLs are too high for the mics?
