I taped my first show on saturday. Taj Mahal at the Jazz Alley in Seattle. The Taj and the venue are not taper-friendly so I used my stealth rig. I use my MD to record my son when he giggles and tries to talk. I use the compression on the MD to save disk space and I don't notice much loss in quality of voice recording with the compression. I unfortunately didn't switch it back for the concert. I couldn't check my levels during the show becaue I was stuck at the bar with far too much light. I had the mics under my sweatshirt hood. There was a speaker near-by so my guess on the levels worked nicely but for the compression. Oh well. Live and learn and tape again!! My JB3 comes this week so I don't have to worry about flipping disks or forgetting to change settings. It was still a great show and good time. My favorite part of the recording is the house manager announcing that recording devices of any kind are not allowed. I can
t wait to try out my open rig!

Clarify, please: can't get the firmware to download from the Creative / Nomadness / Yahoo site onto your computer?
Or can't download from your computer onto the JB3?

I couldn't download the firmware from Nomadness. I ended up getting the files through the yahoo jb3 discussion group. The wierd thing is that when trying to email the files to my hotmail account from my office, Outlook said the files were infected and stripped them from the email. I'm admittedly quite nervous about loading these onto my computer at home. I figure I'll try to download at home but my connection is problematic as of late. We'll see.

I taped my first show a couple of weeks ago with my NJB3 and I wish I would have had
a photo of the goofy look on my face when I got home and tranferred it to my PC. I'm used
to realtime DAT transfers, so I usually start the transfer and go to bed. Not with the JB3.
Connected her up and minutes later the whole show was on my PC. What a thrill! Only problem
is I stayed up half the night tracking and mastering to CD :-)
On the firmware, I could not upgrade using firewire. Switched to USB2 and it worked like
a charm. Currently using the latest firmware without any issues.
