Title: Opinions on the Archos AV recorders? (AV 420)
Post by: KLowe on November 26, 2004, 10:41:02 PM
Hey Yall,
Got a quick question for you guys.  I am new to taping (well, i haven't started yet) but i need some friendly advice about HD recording and mic eqipment.  I think that I have done my "pre Post" homework...searches, reading threads, etc.  I have found lots of info on the archos gmini recorders but not much on the newer archos AV recorders (AV420).  Here is the spec info...  http://archos.com/products/prw_500619_specs.html

First question:  Have any of yall good souls used one of these to record a show?  How did it come out?

Second:  I see that it only has analog audio input.  How important is it to have digital input?  Are there analog to digital converters?  If so....do they work with out losslessness (word?)

Third:  From reading the specs....would you guys use one of these to record with?  I read a ton on the JB3's but I like this device b/c i can view vidio, pics, and also record shows.

Any advice/opinions on this recorder would be great.  Pro/con.  Thanks for the help.
I can't wait to get recording but I do want to have a good set up.  Finally got a decent job and I finally afford some good stuff.

Thanks for the help.

This thread might be of help.

I purchased the Archos 120 hoping it would be the next small HD recorder.  I ended up taking my unit back due to the fact that the recording were not bit acurate.  Not sure if Archos has figured out this problem with their new units.  Hope this helps!
