Title: VX Pocket 440/Soundforge 7.0 Help Needed...
Post by: Nick Graham on November 29, 2004, 12:42:38 AM
Finally got around tonight to installing the VX Pocket I bought a few months ago, and ran into a problem I've yet to figure out.

First off, I was running KM140>V3>VX Pocket via the S/PDIF out on the V3. Anyway, the only incoming sample rate the VX Pocket will accept is 44.1. If I try to set Soundforge to 24/96 (w/96 output on the V3), it says the VX Pocket cannot handle the incoming rate. I reset it to 44.1 on both the V3 and in SF...it records fine. When I go into the VX Pocket menu to change the sample rate, the box is grayed out, and set on 44.1. You can't change it.

Any ideas? 24 bit at 44.1 wasn't exactly what I had in mind...

While I'm at it, one more question concerning the Audiophile 24/96. To use it as my playback soundcard, will all I need to do is get a female 1/8" to RCA Y cable? My PC speakers terminate in a mini plug, and the Audiophile's only outputs are RCA. Also, in doing that, will I be able to playback 24/96 files? Granted that last question sorta depends on being able to record at 24/96...which of course goes back to the original reason behind this post.

the vx pocket will only do up to 48, so 24/48 is the highest you can get with it

the vxpocket can only handle up to 24bit/48khz.  its a matter of stabliity and the data transfer rate
on the pcmcia slot on laptop computer.  much along the same lines as usb1.1 not be able to handle 24/96
stable.  sorry if you were confused when you bought it, the seller should have specified.  i run 24/48 with
mine flawlessly and have been loving it for the past 6 months.  and i do the same thing with my laptop.  i run
an 1/8" to my computer surround speakers, works just fine, a y-cable should do the trick.  there isn't a ton
of difference to the human ear  in going from 48->96khz, but thats just my opinion, hope this helps

Okay, didn't realize theVX Pocket couldn't do 24/96, my mistake. However...I'm still baffled why it will only accept a 44.1 signal, it won't take 48 either.

And if anybody knows of a discounted (i.e. free) copy of wavelab it'd be much appreciated ;)
