No spdif without the breakout box thingy and yes it resamples. Get a Audiophile at audiomidi.com for $95 shipped. One of the best purchases you will ever make.

There is a Zoltrix available (or used to be) in the Yard Sale for $25...  Great deal on decent bit-perfect card.  No resamples either, although I can't get mine to do 48k playback...

I'm actually thinking of buying an Audiophile 2496 to replace it, but I may just save the money...  I don't do DAT>HD transfers, I do DAT>Noamd 3>HD instead (post-show patching), so I don't really need that great of a soundcard...

that would be the only reason i would get a soundcard too, just for playback

i also uise the jb3 for transfers
