Hey folks,
Has anyone ever tried to transfer audio from a DVD (Video) to wave? My setup is:
Toshiba SD-2700 DVD Player > Optical > Delta DiO 2496 > WaveLab 4.0g
I'm trying to record "Hard To Handle" off of the Grateful Dead's DVD called "Festival Express" - sick song. I'm finding strange results. When the DVD is in the menu section waiting for me to select a track (it plays Casey Jones), WaveLab looks fine and gives me normal levels peaking at around -9dB. However, as soon as I start the track they overload in the red zone. I've tried setting the DiO to 24/48, 24/96, 16/48 etc (and set WaveLab to match it)... with no luck. It just can't find a normal signal and overloads 100% of the time that the track is playing.
Any thoughts? Are DVD's like this protected so you can't copy the audio off of it? Hope not.
Thanks,
-Brad

Oh yeah, another thing I noticed.
I have the DiO set to lock the Master Clock on the S/PDIF In (it uses this option for both the coax and optical inputs). When I'm in the menu section of the DVD, it's able to lock onto the signal. When I select a track, it can't lock anymore. I'm starting to think that the Audio is protected...

rip the chapter using dvd decrypter. then use software to strip the pcm (if there is one), or to do the ac3 > WAV conversion...

I use http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/showsoftware_dvd_audio_extractor_343.html

I have a Fostex Cr-200 stand alone cd writer and (viz coax in) it will take audio from any DVD. It resamples to 44.1, but it takes it ;D
