I am trying to run some tests here and play around with my UA-5. Can I play a song on my JB3 and run it into the UA-5 via the RCA inputs and then connect the UA-5 to my computer via USB? I want to "see" the results when I hit record using CD-Wav.
Or, does this fall under the "once you digi-mod a UA-5, you can't use it as a playback unit." I do not think that this rule applies as I am recording with the RCA inputs and transferring via USB output, right?
Sorry if this sounds confusing. I am using a WinXP desktop with CD-Wav 1.92.

That is correct, you're using the UA-5 as your recording device & it will work.
Alternatively, you could use the optical connection to connect to the UA-5.

I think he's going JB3 > UA-5 > computer. the jb3 has no optical output, only input.

Ah. Having never owned or operated one I just figured the optical would be two way. My bad

Thanks guys. +T's. I guess I play with this again tonight after work. Maybe I have a cable in the wrong place. Thanks again!

Grrrrrrr >:( I still have problems. I am running my JB3 > digi-mod UA-5 via mini-RCA cable to the UA-5's RCA inputs. I am then connecting to my computer via USB.
Switches... RCA input at ~90% (peak light flickers), ADV off, output knob 50-100%, Sample Rate Knob set to 44.1 and Record Source set to anaolog (because of RCA inputs).
CDWav sees that I have the UA-5 connected and is set to 16bit, 44.1.
What am I doing wrong? I triend both my WinXP desktop and me 98se lappy. Any clues? ???
edit to add... I tried using the Micosoft Sound Mapper and ESS Allegro (with all the same connections and settings). No luck. Flat line.

Though it doesn't matter because of the Nomad only having analog outs, the UA5 is not bit-perfect as a digital in>computer device.
Not sure about the CDWave input stuff, I think its more of a soundcard or USB issue inputting to the PC???
Though I wonder, why go JB3>UA5>PC, why not just connect the JB3 directly to the PC and once transferred, play the WAV file back in CDWave???

make sure you have selected the ua5 as your recording device(audio card) within cdwave....otherwise it is looking for incoming signals from your standard audio card. Thats the only thing i can think of right now. Ill set mine up like this when i get home see if i can think of anything else. Good luck.

Terry, good question. I am trying to see if, during a concert, I can monitor my levels with my old laptop. It is not powerfull enough to record onto. But, I might be able to use the VU meters of a program like CDWave or Gold Wave to better adjust my levels. Just another toy ;)
The JB3, in this specific instance, is merely a "source" for music. I could use a CD player or stereo, but the JB3 just happened to be sitting here.
