Title: How do you carry your microphones?
Post by: Chuck on December 14, 2004, 11:09:07 AM
I'm looking for a better solution than spending $25 or more on the Pelican 1060 with the pick and pluck foam to carry AKG 480's.
I had a nice wooden box with pleather on the outside to carry my Josephsons. Does anyone know of a good cheap option? I've heard of some folks using tooth brush tubes...

dunno what the model # is but it is a flambeau brand.  hit up the bait shop would be my best suggestion.

I got this wooden cd case at walmart.  It is the perfect size.  Just cut some foam, and I'm good to go.  The box is pretty thin, and it costs lik $7

TLM-170's = $3,700 a pair.  Pelican Case = $30.00

Carrying my mics in a case I can drive my 3/4 Ton Suburban over = PRICELESS!

For saving space, I use a trick my friend GRAY from Florida showed me.....get a traveling tooth paste holder...that has a good secure lid.....you can alter that some what to make a tight fit....add foam to the top, and press some into the long end....add just enough not to put pressure on the caps, and mark which end is the capsule end.....

This is great for carrying the 140's in a backpack, or my set-up which is a water proof thermal 18 can beer cooler....completely water proof to set on the ground ( Coventry was a great tes FOB) holds dap1,ad2k,v-2 and various batteries and supplies

One thing I use is a 2 finger leather cigar case. Not good at all for xtra caps, but a perfect fit for any pair of small condenser mics. They usually can be found in different sizes. I use a 50 ring gauge churchill size for my CM700's. Nothing touches and you can even add small cylindrical pieces of foam at the end of each tube length. Inside is plenty soft enough to protect the mics. Hey, there designed to protect your precious Cohiba's. And they leave a very small footprint.

I got mine on eBay with the foam and shipped 2nd Day for $24 and change.
The foam and shipping is a bit higher at B&H

The foam is a little more expensive there.
If you are buying more then one item, which is why I linked the link. (need some clamps?)
Then shipping is actually cheaper.
Pick and pluck foam can be bought locally anyway.
Besides it is only a sale, the ebay prices will be around longer I am sure.

Sweet, that's good to hear.  This Friday will be my debut with these these mics (hot buttered rum string band), the case should be here just in time. A bright yellow one at that  ;D

Almost forgot, +T to jackorose for posting that B&H link!

I use an old kitty litter bucket to carry everything. The mics are stored in the hard cases thay came with.Surprisingly I have enough room to carry mics, preamp, cables and still have enough room for CD's, posters,  etc.

the difficult to find / discontinued Target Kitchen Shelving, introduced to us by jef-o. it is 4 shelves stacked.

edit:
more pics here, http://www.taperssection.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7366.0

You can get equivalent shelving at Walmart.  Just hacked a pair for my UA-5.
