Title: has anyone run V2 > UA-5 > JB3?
Post by: Tyler McGhee on December 23, 2004, 02:34:25 AM
i think i'm going to get a ua-5 from the yard sale and want to know
if there is anything that will cause me grief in the future?
i will go rca out of the V2 into rca inputs on the ua-5 and optical
out to the jb3.  i currently go v2 > vxpocket > laptop
and am looking to downsize to one bag.  the ua-5 looks
like it'll do this for me. of course i'll have another box to power
but it'll still be lighter than an laptop and two ncharges.

thanks!

I've done it a few times w/ no problems w/ a fellow ts.com member's V2 and my pUA5.  I really couldn't tell that much of a difference between using the V2 and not using it.  But I still want one, badly.   :)

the main reason i was asking is because i read somewhere
last night on the  board something about the +25 levels of the V2
were too hot for the levels of the ua-5, but you didn't have any problems
with levels at all?

No, not w/ RCAs.  There might be a problem if you go w/ the XLRs.

I ran V2>"Oadie" digi-mod UA5 >JB3 for a few shows. And compared to direct into a D8 (No UA5).

For some reason I was losing a lot of bass response when I used the UA5. Detail was improved over using the line-in on the DAT (better A/D conversion w/ UA5) but the loss of bass was terrible.

I compared this set up to a V3 and immediately bought the V3. Then sold the V2 and UA5.  V3 sounded incredible in comparison. Huge differenvce.  Selling the V2 and UA5 gave me about $900 towards the V3.  Another $2-300 and you have a V3! They sell used for $1200 often. I split the signal with a HOSA coax to optical splitter into the JB3.

To answer your original question. Like the guy said before me, NO PROBLEM running RCA V2>UA5.

I've always been toying with the idea of a V3, maybe i should just go ahead and do it,
one box to power would be much nicer, fo sho.

thanks for the info fellas.

+t to all!

Did you ever track down the root cause of the problem?

I ran Jef-o's  V2 infront of my Pmod UA5 last night at Hooka 2nd set. Nak's>V2>PmodUA5>JB3.  Through the XLR's of the UA5. UA5 levels turned all the way down. I think it really made it sound a little bit more tight.
