I'm working on a Ghost Mix - a disc-long mix of some of my favorite versions of The Story of the Ghost. I've transferred each version directly from DAT and I've chosen the two bookending sources (beginning and end). I'm looking to overlap each source over the other (the beginning of one over the ending of another) with a gradual phasing out of the one that's ending and phasing into the new source. I assume that's crossfading. Anyways, how is this done with Wave Lab? I'm using v.5.0.

this is how you do it in 4.0, I'm guessing it hasn't changed in 5.0. Select/copy the complete segment you want to fade into (i.e. the ending segment). Then highlight a short stretch at the end of your beginning segment (I usually use 50 - 100 msec but it depends on what I'm fading, you can certainly use more or less). Pull up the Crossfade menu (under Process iirc). I have always used the default settings. Then just hit "Go" or "Okay" or whatever the process button is, and you're done.

Heath, I'll comp you a copy. Its pretty sick, even without the smooth fades. Got it down to 73mins. It starts with the guitar feedback loop > lyrics > jam from 7.4.99 > jam section from 11.17.97 > jam section from 5.22.00 > jam section from 11.21.97 > jam section from 6.15.00 > ending > fades out.

do the fades in a montage inside WaveLab.
The options for crossfading are sick, and easy as pie.
I mess around with fading/mixing disco/dance/trance/techno stuff and love your idea of the ghosts all stitched together.
If you haven't completed it already, pm me and I will provide any tips to help.
Heck, if you want to shoot me a copy of your raw files, I'd love to take a crack at it.

John's got it right on. I've used Montages to splice in sources (to cover dropouts or something of the like) as well with the same technique. The very gradual crossfade in/out makes it really hard to tell where the edit is, so long as the two sections are aligned.
