what the max i should be writing cd's/dvd's at ???
by default since i got the usb2.0 card, my external dvd/cd writer writes cd's at 48x(default)
and the dvd writer writes at 8x(default)
is this too fast? i noticed one skip on an audio, data(flac) discs seem fine at 48x, but is it too fast for audio?
dvd's seem fine burning at 8x i guess too
its the newer verbatims i bought too, they must be able to write faster than the previous ones i bought
thanks,
bean

some people prescribe to the theory that audio should only be burned at 1x as you have the least chance of introducing errors into the burn. many people have no problems burning at higher speeds...ymmv.
myself, I burn audio cds at 4x, data cd/dvd at max speed

When recording at full speed, you are more likely to introduce error (this could depend also on your media / recorder and so on ...)
On a CD Audio, an audio block is 2352 bytes.
On a Data CD, there is typically 2048 bytes of data available per block, the remaining (2352-2048 ) being used for error control / checksums.
Audio CD don't have that extra layer of error control, so if this a record that you care, I would not recommand burning too fast.

I rarely burn audio CDs but when I do I do it at 32x and haven't had any issues
I burn dvds (either movies or FLAC/SHNs) at 8x-16x depending on media and haven't had any issues
