In a laptop it will be tough. I've never cracked one open though, so I can't offer much help.
I assume you mean it is a 600mhz P2? If it is a p3 then you should be fine. If it is a P2, you should just get a new laptop because everything else will be slow too.

cant be a P2 as they maxed out at 450.
its probably a p3 or celeron, regardless, most laptop cpus cant be upgraded.
this laptop probably cant be upgraded anyways because of the socket and bus speed on the laptop is far below evevn last years models...
edit: most laptop cpus CAN be upgraded...IF you can find the replacement parts. thats the tricky part

damnit, it would prolly be cheaper to get a cdrw internal in it, than spending all this ching just so i could use an external dvd burner
you really think because its 200MHZ shy that it wont work ??? maybe it would, right?
all i need built up is the RAm and i thought it wouldf work, but my external burner says it needs 800mhz so....im screwed huh :P

you could always try to sell it on ebay and get another laptop that meets your needs. ???

i know, i know
onlky thing is, it was given to me for free as a gift from my cousin and hed prolly freak if i sold it that quickly, and im broke at the moment so :'(

Keep the laptop as is for mobile purposes and start putting togather a desktop for power uses like a/v. I have seen puters with 3x the power you have going for under $300 bucks, decently equipped. If you could upgrade that 600 cpu you could't up t much as it needs to match the motherboard. Desktops excell at cheap-easy upgrades, laptops at mobility
