im hoping to get some help for a buddy here
he has gotta some sort of a m-audio box for multitracking with his pc, and it came in a bundle with pro-tools. i have zero experience with anything pro-tools related so...
he installed everything and it seemed to go ok, his pc is supposedly compatible with the device and the version of pro-tools. this is what it tells him when he tries to run pro tools after the installation, this is during a blue screen and directly before it restarts
A problem has been detected and windows has shut down to prevent damage. An attempt was made to execute non-executeable memory.
then some code, not sure what it was he didnt remember
physical meory dump complete
then it restarts. everything seems to be fine with the pc, and he only has problems when he tries to run pro-tools
-
What OS is he using ? I think pro-tools runs only on Windows 98/Me, which could be an issue (no experience with pro-tools either ...) ?
-
it is XP home, and he says the paperwork with the pro tools bundle he got said it would work, and the updated pro tools he got is supposed to be compatible with SP2 even
-
bump, need some help if anyone has any idea
-
you could always try to run under win98...
right clikc on the start icon, click on properties, then click on the "compatability" tab"
check the "run this program in compatability mode for"
and try the windows 98 one
it may not work, but its worth a try.
also, have you tried a re-install?
-
he said he has re-installed 3 times, with the saem things happening

i did a google search..with the new protools, there seems to be TONS of this going on...and no solutions yet....sorry to hear he is having troubles

I dont *think* any M-Audio gear comes with ProTools bundeled.
its probably the M-Box(same company as ProTools)
they've released a new version which is XP compatable? hmmmm.......
-
it is definantly the m-box. i was confused
he contacted musicians friend where he bought it, and they said there would be zero problems returning all of it if it woudlnt work
he would really liek to get it to work tho
-
has he contacted digidesign yet? Their support has always been excellent whenever I have needed them. It's always best to go to the source when you have an issue...

il probably tell him to just call them this week then
-
they will help. he should def call...he bought their product--they will support it

Does he have the hardware (M-box) connected when he his trying to run protools? Some protools rigs require the connection of the actual hardware to act as a "key" to operate the software.

Here is a firewire patch from microsoft I found. You may want to tell him to try this. This was on the Mackie site. I found it while researching the firewire option for my mixer.
