Title: shntool length won't work in one set of shns but does in others. ??'s
Post by: Gordon on January 12, 2005, 04:16:38 PM
not sure what is up.  I right click and run shnlength and the dos window only opens for a sec.  looking at the output this is all that's there

length     expanded size   cdr  WAVE problems filename
0:00.00           0.00 MB                    (totals for 0 files, 0.0000 overall compression ratio)

the md5's all verify.  I ran shnlength in another set of shns to be sure my shntool is working and it worked fine on the other ones.  any idea of what's going on?

Judging by that, I would suspect that there is a character in the file name that it doesn't recognize. There's not a comma in the file names where there should be a period, is there?

who made the shn?  was it made with aiff data  instead of wav data (shorten can technically compress a shn in a different format than you're used to)?

if you decompress it, what happens?

Conversion: Zac Williams

D8 > coax > Waveterminal U2A > CDwav > mkwACT > shn

I  burned a audio copy in Nero (using the shn plugin)  just a min ago.  burned fine.  just decoded a few of the files to see and they worked fine.

I updated my SHNTOOLs several montsh ago and find I can no longer do SHNs, but only WAVs.  And it won;t fix an SBE on the last track of a set...

Anybody have an older version of SHNTOOLs they can email me???

Yeah, I'll have to get you to help me tomorrow or something - I'm getting ready to go home (no internet at home) and get ready for The Duo...

Try opening a command prompt (go to Run, type cmd) and cd to the folder of shn's in question. Then do your shntool commands on them instead of using the contextual menus from Explorer. That may work.

Also Terry, I've noticed the same thing with the most recent version of shntool. If you're unable to repair the last track SBE you could open it up in CD Wave and cut off the last frame, or bring it into WaveLab or SF or whatever and trim off the last frame. A little more work but it doesn't require you choosing more than one file to shntool fix on.

Hope this helps.

Did you run shtool len *.shn or shntool len *.SHN  Shntool is case sensitive when it looks at file names .shn and .SHN are two different things
