looking for a little help from someone with more knowledge of this stand. i have read in one archival post that the footprint for most stands can be reduced by not extending the legs fully. this also increases the overall height of the stand slightly. can this be done with a bogen 3322 with it still being stable? the reason i ask is because the footprint diameter of this particular stand is 42.1 inches. that could be a little too big for me to deal with. but if i can reduce this length by not extending them fully, the problem would be eliminated. i don't want to go out and buy one and then find it is not what i wanted. thanks in advance...

Not sure how the 3322 is built, but check out this other stand thread where I posted pics on the trick to keep the footprint under a foot.

it seems like a trick that should work with the 3322 as well. +t for the advise. it sucks b/c i want to play around with this stand before i purchase it, but really don't have access to one. :(

I just looked at a pic of the 3322, but I could not tell if the bottom is fixed or adjustable.
Any special reason you are looking at that model?

not really, but after talking to you and a couple of people who already use a 3078, i think i'm leaning towards that model.

whichever model you get i would recommend getting this also:

you can get it from micsupply at this link:

do me a favor tenJ and grab one for me too! I'm good for it!

yeah i will when i order one. it is about time to give dave a call about these caps anyway

FYI - the bottom of the 3322 is definitely fixed. I just looked at mine and it is metal, and mostly solid (small hole) underneath the center leg.
-
so that means there is no way to adjust the footprint diameter. guess i'm definitely goin with the 3078, thanks goose

just got my stand in the mail the other day. i went with a 3078, which i couldn't be happier with. chris, i pick up a 3/8 to 5/8 fitting for you.

I have a 3078 too...it's GREAT!!!! tiny footprint or large footprint....short or tall....and built like a tank :)
instead of using an adapter on the stand, I'm just using my clamp right now...lol
Hopefully I'll get my JB3,cables,and mics in the mail soon (so I can use my rig) lol
