kick drum mic stand, available at Guitar Center or any similiar store...
placement is really dependnt on the stage and band setup. in general, try to avoid getting too close to the drums, they will be the loudest instrument on stage...

i used a wooden paper towel holder once :) anything thats not too big would work really, desk style mic stands, kick drum stands, or just regular stands (bogen types) with smaller footprints. even standard mic stands could work without the boom arm. if you wanna buy something though, just go to guitar center and look around for something that'll work for you. it really depends on the stage set up, but try to be in the middle of the set up and yeah not too close to drums. :) good luck

The brand On-stage stands makes a kick drum stand with a small rectangular base that works great. It is heavy enough to hold a tree, but the footprint is about the size of a brick so they fit almost anywhere.
Around $25 at GC
