Im a new to taping and what a good starter pair of Phones I can monitor shows with and enjoy some light home listening with in the $50 to $100 range. I dont have golden ears.....yet so if I can find a good deal on some cheaper phones I would be happy with that. I know the sky is the limit on phones like everything else. Thanks

IME, using headphones to monitor recordings in the field and listen at home are two radically different uses. And honestly, unless you're making multi-source mixes (3-mic mix, 2-mics + SBD), there's really not much need to monitor in the field.
At any rate, in that price range a lot of people are happy with the Sony MDR-7506s.

brian makes some good points. you could pm gloco on this board, he is a self proclaimed headphone nut. For that price range you can find a nice set of AKG's, Grado's or if you are patient, you could find a pair of Senn HD580's. The akg and Senn's will enclose the ear, the grado will rest on the ear. The enclosure could make for better isolation.....but I have not used the grado's...nick g. could comment on this as he owns a pair.

I have 7506's, and I love them. THey do not provide near enough isolation to monitor at a show though. But I agree with brian - there's not really much reason to if you aren't doing a matrix.
watch out for blowing your ears out trying to monitor at a show...
